Ranferi Aguilar & Hacedores de lluvia (Rainmakers) will play and talk about their music, culture, and other interests and pursuits in a relaxed, informal setting. Ranferi Aguilar (Maya) blends ancient Mayan sounds with the guitar and other modern instruments, to create new arrangements of traditional Mayan music. The Rainmaker has several years of experimentation with the sounds of present day. The group plays mud whistles, tinajas, snail trumpets, ceramic drums, tortoise shells and other extinct pre-Hispanic instruments. Steady percussion and vocals that emanate from their own depth accompany these sounds. The participants will be guided on a spiritual tour of Guatemala's ancient and forgotten musical traditions.
