Join Suni Paz and Rafael Manriquez as their voices and guitars celebrate the release of two CDs, Tierra Querida & Que Viva el Canto, respectively (produced by Smithsonian Folkways). They include folk songs written by Atahualpa Yupanqui, Eladia Vlasquez, Violeta Parra, Victor Jara, Patricio Manns as well as some great contemporary songwriters.

 

Suni Paz has recorded and has been published extensively. Singing in English and Spanish, she has performed her music, thrilling audiences of all ages on stage, radio, and television all over the world. Her latest appearances have included the PBS television special A Place of Our Own / Los Niños en su Casa. Among the myriad of concert halls she has graced are the famed Bottom Line in New York (sharing the stage with performers such as Bob Dylan, Pete Seeger, Don Maclean, Richie Havens, and the late folk icon Phil Ochs) and Madison Square Garden. She has been part of some of the most important folk music festivals of our time like the Clearwater Revival. Her unique songs inspire positive ideas, the strength of the human spirit, and a caring worldview.

 



Rafael Manríquez has been one of the leading exponents of Latin American music in the San Francisco Bay Area for over twenty years. Originally from Santiago, Chile, Rafael brings us the gift of both his exquisite voice and remarkable skill on Latin American string instruments, ranging from the guitar to the charango to the cuatro and tiple. Rafael is a passionate and well-loved composer and performer. Through his music, he reveals the richness of Latin folk rhythms influenced by the Spanish, Native American and African cultures. His lyrics reflect the struggles and hopes of the people of this continent. He has performed throughout the Americas and Europe. His music has been recorded on over twelve albums.
