La Peña Cultural Center presents the Official West Coast Premiere of Mastering Sex & Tortilla! a hit solo comedy by Adelina Anthony-Back by Popular Demand!

After playing to another sold-out audience, most recently in San Francisco's Brava Theater, the critically acclaimed "Mastering Sex & Tortillas!" returns to the East Bay to make its Official West Coast Premiere. La Peña Cultural Center proudly presents the provocative, daring, and original comedy of queer Chicanas. The show has been a "sold out" hit in venues like Highways Performance Space (L.A.) to Cara Mia Theatre Co. (Dallas) to Princeton (New Jersey). This special engagement at La Peña Cultural Center is scheduled for a limited run from May 11-13th, 2006, at 8 p.m.

Written and performed by Chicana teatrista, Adelina Anthony, and featuring comedian Coral Lopez-this special engagement is sure to sell out and will not be returning to the Bay Area.

March 1, 2006 (Berkeley, CA) - "Mastering Sex & Tortillas!" a very sexy comedy exploring sexuality, race, gender, and immigration through a Queer Chicana lens returns to La Penã where the show first played to Bay Area audiences in a sold-out "one-night stand" show in 2003.

The Dallas Morning News says, "… original work, the raucous, ultrasapphic comedy Mastering Sex & Tortillas…. This is not the PC, Birkenstocky, close-cropped lesbian culture some folks may expect. Ms. Anthony seems determined to shake up audiences of every stripe. But she's likely to leave them shaking with laughter… screamingly funny."

In "Mastering Sex & Tortillas!" Adelina Anthony plays La Profesora Mama Chocha a high-femme/ high drama seminar instructor that more than educates her audience on lesbianism 101 from a "tortillera" point of view. After intermission Anthony comes back as the debonair butch FBI Agent, Papi Duro, who has plenty of work to do "under the covers." Coral Lopez gets the audience geared up for a night of provocative comedy by opening the show with her own scandalous stand-up comedy that tackles the gamut of sexuality, Latina/o home life, and cultural taboos. Lopez also makes a cameo appearance as the risqué Sex Bomb, a foil to Papi Duro's endless pursuit of happiness with other women.

Anthony's quick wit and genuine moments of audience interaction keep the show fresh and unique. Anthony's professional background as a stage actor have garnered her several Best Actress nominations. As a writer she is featured in Best American Erotica 2002 edited by Susie Bright. Anthony has also performed stand-up comedy at the Ice House in Pasadena and co-hosted the Los Angeles Dyke March with Lopez (her partner in life and comedy). Both of them were nominated as outstanding Queer community activist in 2002 by Tentaciones Magazines in Los Angeles.
