Women Drummer’s International presents a Dance concert with Lora Chiorah & Sukutai Marimba & Dance Ensemble performing traditional & contemporary music from Zimbabwe. Since 1980, Sukutai has been delighting audiences with a combination of dance, music & storytelling to celebrate the heritage of Zimbabwe's Shona People.
Started in 1980, Sukutai’s vibrant marimba music, beautiful harmonies, Mbira, colorful dances, high-energy footwork and lively drumming are hallmarks of the Shona people. Audience participation is an understatement in a Sukutai concert – there are soon more people on their feet than in their seats. According to Lora Chiorah, “There is no distinction between audience and performers in my culture. If you can walk, you can dance; if you can talk, you can sing.” Special guest artist: Sheree Seretse from the Anzanga Ensemble.
