Blink or Think? A Skeptic's Guide to the Pros and Cons of Commonsense Intuition.
In this talk, Dr. Lilienfeld will critically evaluate recent popular claims that intuitions, gut hunches, and "common sense" are useful guides for evaluating the natural world and for distinguishing scientific from pseudoscientific claims. He will review psychological research on the advantages and disadvantages of intuitive thinking, discuss reasons to be skeptical of commonsense psychology, and address the question of what we should do when our gut hunches conflict with scientific evidence.
