The Fruitvale Project is an experimental docu-theater performance project which showcases Latino spoken word artists and their experiences from an an eight month residency in the Fruitvale Community of East Oakland. The artists draw from the work they did with social services programs in the Fruitvale District of East Oakland at the Spanish Speaking Citizens' Foundation and The Unity Council. Using spoken word, dance, theatrical monologues, live music, recorded interviews, and more the audience learns about the immigrant community of the Fruitvale as it moves through a large economic and social transition.
