Over the past several years, La Peña has developed a model of next generation arts programming which is based on 5 areas:

  • Developing strategic relationships with key artists and community organizations from targeted communities (which we call presenting partnerships);

  • Creating ongoing programming series which feature artists from targeted communities which have been developed in consultation with people from those communities  these series feature emerging artists and, at times, pair emerging with established artists (i.e. Hecho en Califas, Collective Soul);

  • Working collaboratively with targeted organizations from the same communities;

  • Developing at least one high visibility annual event or Festival which brings in new audiences and heightens awareness of programming;

  • Organizing residencies between emerging and established artists to support artistic development and networking (such as The Fruitvale Project).
